A BiographyLarry grew up in a traditional military family (father Don and mother Avia, Larry and 3 siblings) that transferred along with his father's U.S. Air Force career as an aircraft mechanic on the SR71 Blackbird all over the world, starting at Edwards AFB and including Maryland, Germany, Arizona, California and New Jersey. The family did not accompany Don on deployments to places like Vietnam and Korea, and at the young age of 53, Master Sargent Don Jones succumbed to myelofibrosis related to Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam.
With so many moves during his young life, Larry was always able to start over in new schools and neighborhoods wherever he went, and he eventually enrolled in an electrical trades program in high school. Larry excelled in his classes, and after graduation, Larry decided to echo his father's military career and entered the U.S. Army. Larry's Army assignments spanned the operation and maintenance of advanced missile systems; jam-proof electronic data links for AWACS aircraft; communications systems, computer administration and computer networking; and Army Airborne training. Larry was also deployed during war time, holding leadership positions during Desert Shield/Desert Storm at King Kali Military City and Iraqi Freedom in support of the Northern front in Turkey. He holds a Top Secret clearance from the U.S. Army. After 11+ years, Staff Sargeant Larry Jones was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1991. Larry and his family settled in Florida, where he earned his AS degree in Computer Programming and Information Science and joined the Duval County School District as a Computer Specialist and continued serving his country in the U.S. Army Reserve until he retired 12 years later and was classified as disabled due to service related illness and injury. The extensive technical and leadership skills that Larry developed in the Army have proved to be invaluable in his job as a computer specialist for the Duval County School District. He maintains and upgrades computer equipment at schools and offices throughout the school district and at the central warehouse. He also developed and delivered a training program for school district computer specialist employees. Larry performs much of his work in classrooms and school facilities, where he gets a birds-eye view of what is happening in our schools today.
